
Hamburger Steaks with Caramelized Onions
A Southern classic made with seasoned hamburger patties, caramelized onions, and creamy skillet milk gravy. This comfort food recipe is both easy and satisfying for a hearty dinner.

- 1 lb Ground Beef I used farm fresh grass fed beef
- Kosher Salt
- Cracked Black Pepper
- Chili Powder
- 1 Onion sliced
- ¼ cup Flour or 4 tablespoons
- 2 cups Milk
- Salt & Pepper to taste

- Heat a skillet over medium heat. Add just enough cooking oil to coat the bottom of the pan.
- Form your ground beef into patties or hamburger steaks. Create a small indention in the center of each patty.
- Season each side of the patties with kosher salt, cracked black pepper, and chili powder.
- Add hamburger steaks to the skillet. Cook each side for 7 to 8 minutes, until browned and cooked through.
- Near the end of cooking, add sliced onion to caramelize. Finish cooking onions once steaks are done.
- To make gravy, add flour to the pan drippings and whisk to combine. Add salt and pepper.
- Cook the flour for 3-4 minutes, then slowly whisk in milk. Continue whisking until thickened, then remove from heat.
Notes
Adjust flour or milk to achieve your desired gravy thickness. Serve hot with mashed potatoes or your favorite side!
