Slow Cooker French Dip Sandwiches

Slow cooked, tender beef flavored with rich seasonings and broth, served on toasted hoagie rolls with melted cheese and a warm au jus dip on the side.

  • 2 lbs lean chuck meat trimmed of all fat
  • ½ teaspoon kosher salt
  • fresh cracked black pepper
  • olive oil spray
  • 1 cup beef broth
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tablespoon balsamic vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon Dijon mustard
  • 1 bouillon cube beef flavor
  • 1 onion quartered
  • 3 cloves garlic smashed
  • 2 bay leaves dried
  • hoagie rolls for serving
  • ultra thin or light cheese slices Swiss, mozzarella, or provolone

Instructions

  • Season the chuck meat on both sides with kosher salt and fresh cracked pepper.
  • Spray skillet with olive oil spray and heat on medium-high. Sear meat for 2-3 minutes each side until browned.
  • Transfer meat into your slow cooker pot right after searing.
  • Add your liquids and seasonings into the slow cooker: beef broth, Worcestershire sauce, balsamic vinegar, Dijon mustard, bouillon cube, onion, garlic, and bay leaves.
  • Cook on low for 8 hours.
  • Remove beef and shred using two forks.
  • Return shredded meat to the cooker to soak in juices.
  • Toast hoagie rolls, melt cheese over meat, assemble sandwiches and serve with broth for dipping.

Notes

Use trimmed lean chuck roast for best results. Shred slowly after cooking for best texture. Serve immediately for best taste.
