Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour the cake pans, or line them with parchment paper.
In a large mixing bowl, cream together the softened butter and sugar until light and fluffy, about 3-4 minutes using an electric mixer.
Add the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Then stir in the vanilla extract.
In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt.
Gradually add the dry ingredients to the butter mixture alternately with the milk, starting and ending with the flour mixture. Mix until just combined.
Gently fold in the chopped strawberries using a rubber spatula, being careful not to break them down too much.
Divide the batter evenly between the prepared cake pans. Smooth the top with a spatula.
Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
Allow the cakes to cool in the pans for 10 minutes before transferring them to a cooling rack to cool completely.
Once the cakes are completely cool, frost with whipped cream if desired, and decorate with additional strawberries on top.
