Equipment

  • 1 mixing bowl
  • 1 measuring cups and spoons
  • 1 whisk
  • 1 baking sheet
  • 1 parchment paper optional
  • 1 oven

Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 1 cup milk (or buttermilk)
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil (or melted butter)

Instructions

  • Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper, if desired.
  • In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, salt, and sugar until well combined.
  • Make a well in the center of the dry ingredients and pour in the milk and vegetable oil.
  • Stir the mixture until it forms a soft dough. Be careful not to overmix.
  • Transfer the dough to a floured surface and gently knead it for about 1 minute to bring it together. Shape the dough into a round loaf.
  • Place the loaf on the prepared baking sheet and optionally cut a few slits on the top for decoration and to help it rise.
  • Bake in the preheated oven for about 25–30 minutes or until the bread is golden brown and sounds hollow when tapped on the bottom.
  • Remove from the oven and let it cool on a wire rack before slicing.

Notes
