1 cutting board
4 serving bowls
- 1 lb ground chicken
- 1 medium onion, diced
- 1 red bell pepper, diced
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tablespoon Cajun seasoning Adjust spice level to preference.
- 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
- ½ cup chicken broth
- ¼ cup ketchup
- 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
- 4 pieces hamburger buns
- 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
- salt and pepper to taste
- fresh parsley for garnish (optional)
Heat the vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the diced onion and red bell pepper. Sauté for 3-4 minutes until they start to soften.
Add the minced garlic to the skillet and cook for another minute until fragrant.
Increase the heat to medium-high and add the ground chicken. Cook until the chicken is browned and fully cooked, breaking it up with the wooden spoon as it cooks (about 6-8 minutes).
Stir in the Cajun seasoning and smoked paprika, mixing well to coat the chicken and vegetables.
Pour in the chicken broth, ketchup, and Worcestershire sauce. Stir to combine. Bring to a simmer and reduce the heat to low. Let it cook for another 5-7 minutes until thickened. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
Meanwhile, toast the hamburger buns in a separate pan or oven until golden brown.
To serve, spoon the Cajun chicken mixture onto the bottom half of each bun. Top with fresh parsley if desired, then place the top half of the bun over the filling.
Feel free to adjust the spice level by adding more or less Cajun seasoning according to your preference.
To customize, you can add cheese on top of the chicken mixture before placing the bun on, allowing it to melt slightly.
Serve with a side of coleslaw or crispy potato chips for a complete meal.
