Equipment

  • 1 mixing bowl
  • 1 trifle bowl or individual serving glasses
  • 1 whisk or electric mixer
  • 1 saucepan
  • 1 spatula
  • 1 measuring cup
  • 1 set of measuring spoons

Ingredients

  • 8 ounces chocolate cake, cut into cubes You can substitute with brownies for a different flavor.
  • 2 cups chocolate pudding Store-bought or homemade.
  • 2 cups heavy whipping cream
  • ½ cup powdered sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup chocolate shavings or grated chocolate For garnish.

Instructions

  • In a large mixing bowl, prepare the chocolate pudding according to the package instructions if using store-bought. If making your own, combine 2 cups of milk and the chocolate pudding mix in a saucepan over medium heat. Stir continuously until the mixture thickens. Remove from heat and let it cool.
  • In another mixing bowl, whip the heavy cream with powdered sugar and vanilla extract using a whisk or electric mixer until stiff peaks form. This will be your whipped cream layer.
  • In your trifle bowl or individual serving glasses, begin layering. Start with a layer of chocolate cake cubes at the bottom.
  • Next, add a layer of chocolate pudding on top of the cake cubes, smoothing it out with a spatula.
  • Follow with a layer of whipped cream.
  • Repeat the layers—cake, pudding, whipped cream—until the bowl is filled, finishing with a layer of whipped cream on top.
  • To serve, sprinkle chocolate shavings or grated chocolate over the whipped cream layer for garnish.
  • Chill the trifle in the refrigerator for at least 2 hours before serving to allow the flavors to meld beautifully.

Notes

You can substitute store-bought chocolate cake with brownies for a different flavor and texture.
