- 4 cups Rice Chex cereal
- 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
- ½ cup creamy peanut butter
- ¼ cup unsalted butter (½ stick)
- 1 cup powdered sugar
- ½ teaspoon vanilla extract
- ½ cup festive candy or sprinkles (for garnish, optional)
Prepare your workspace by lining a baking sheet with parchment paper for easier cleanup, if desired.
In a microwave-safe bowl, combine the semi-sweet chocolate chips, creamy peanut butter, and unsalted butter. Microwave on high for 30 seconds, then stir. Continue microwaving in 15-second intervals until the mixture is smooth and melted.
Stir in the vanilla extract into the melted mixture until well combined.
In a large mixing bowl, add the Rice Chex cereal and pour the melted chocolate mixture over the cereal. Gently fold to coat all the pieces evenly.
Transfer the coated mixture to a large resealable plastic bag or a clean large bowl. Add the powdered sugar and shake or toss until the cereal is well coated with the sugar.
Spread the coated cereal onto the lined baking sheet and, if desired, sprinkle with festive candy or sprinkles for a holiday touch.
Allow the puppy chow to cool for about 5 minutes, then break it into clusters.
Serve immediately or store in an airtight container for up to a week.
You can customize this recipe by adding other mix-ins like mini marshmallows, crushed pretzels, or holiday-themed candies.
For a different flavor, consider using white chocolate instead of semi-sweet chocolate.
