Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
In a large mixing bowl, cream together the softened butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar using a hand mixer or stand mixer until light and fluffy, about 2-3 minutes.
Add the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Then, stir in the vanilla extract, orange zest, and orange juice until fully combined.
In another bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, and salt. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing just until combined. Avoid overmixing.
Gently fold in the dried cranberries and walnuts (if using) until evenly distributed throughout the dough.
Drop tablespoon-sized portions of dough onto the prepared baking sheet, leaving space between each cookie.
Bake in the preheated oven for 10-12 minutes, or until the edges are lightly golden. The centers may appear slightly underbaked, but they will set as they cool.
Allow the cookies to cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes before transferring them to a cooling rack to cool completely.
