Equipment

  • 1 food processor or blender
  • 1 mixing bowl
  • 1 spoon for stirring
  • 1 storage container

Ingredients

  • 12 oz fresh or frozen cranberries
  • 1 medium orange with peel, cut into quarters.
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • ½ cup walnuts optional
  • ¼ teaspoon salt to taste

Instructions

  • Rinse the cranberries under cold water and remove any stems or bruised berries.
  • In a food processor or blender, combine the fresh cranberries and the quarters of the orange (including the peel).
  • Pulse the mixture until coarsely chopped, ensuring not to over-process; you want some texture.
  • Transfer the chopped cranberry-orange mixture to a mixing bowl.
  • Stir in the granulated sugar, chopped walnuts (if using), and salt. Adjust sweetness to taste.
  • Allow the relish to sit for at least 30 minutes to let the flavors meld together, or serve it immediately if needed.
  • Store any leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to one week.

Notes

This relish can be made a day in advance for the best flavor.
Experiment with other add-ins like apples, pears, or spices such as cinnamon for a different twist.
Serve this cranberry relish chilled or at room temperature alongside roasted meats, on sandwiches, or as a topping for cream cheese.
