Ingredients
  

  • 2 large onions About 1 pound.
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 1 cup sour cream
  • 1 cup mayonnaise
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • to taste none freshly cracked black pepper
  • for garnish none chives or parsley Optional

Instructions
 

  • Slice the onions thinly, cutting them in half and then slicing each half into thin half-moons.
  • Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium heat, then add the sliced onions, sprinkling them with salt and sugar.
  • Cook the onions, stirring occasionally, for about 25-30 minutes until they are deeply caramelized and golden brown. Lower the heat if they start to burn.
  • Remove the caramelized onions from heat and allow to cool slightly.
  • In a mixing bowl, combine sour cream, mayonnaise, garlic powder, Worcestershire sauce, and freshly cracked black pepper. Mix until well combined.
  • Fold in the cooled caramelized onions until evenly distributed in the dip.
  • Transfer the dip to a serving bowl and garnish with chives or parsley if desired.
  • Cover and refrigerate for at least 1 hour to allow the flavors to meld.

Notes

For an extra kick, you can add a dash of hot sauce or cayenne pepper to the dip.
This dip can be made a day in advance for a stronger flavor.
Serve with a variety of dippers like potato chips, carrot sticks, or cucumber slices for a great combination.
