Begin by boiling a large pot of salted water. Once boiling, add the pasta and cook according to the package instructions until al dente. Drain and set aside.
In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add the diced onion and cook for about 3-4 minutes, or until soft and translucent.
Add minced garlic to the skillet and cook for an additional 1 minute until fragrant.
Increase the heat to medium-high and add the ground beef, breaking it apart with a spatula. Cook until browned and cooked through, about 5-7 minutes. Drain excess fat if necessary.
Stir in the canned tomatoes (with their juice), tomato paste, oregano, basil, salt, and pepper. Bring the mixture to a simmer and cook for about 5 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld together.
Add the cooked pasta to the skillet and toss until the pasta is well coated with the sauce. Heat for an additional 2-3 minutes.
Serve hot, optionally topping with grated Parmesan cheese.
