1 large skillet
1 pot for boiling noodles
1 wooden spoon or spatula
1 measuring cups and spoons
4 serving bowls
- 1 pound ground beef
- 1 medium onion, chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 8 ounces mushrooms, sliced
- 1 cup beef broth
- 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1 cup sour cream
- 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- to taste salt
- to taste black pepper
- 8 ounces egg noodles or pasta of your choice
- chopped parsley for garnish (optional)
Cook the egg noodles according to the package instructions. Drain and set aside.
In a large skillet, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and cook until it becomes translucent, about 3–4 minutes.
Stir in the minced garlic and sliced mushrooms. Cook for an additional 5 minutes until the mushrooms are soft.
Add the ground beef to the skillet. Cook until browned and no longer pink, about 6–8 minutes. Break it up with a wooden spoon as it cooks.
Sprinkle the flour over the beef mixture, stirring to combine. Cook for 1–2 minutes to remove the raw flour taste.
Gradually add the beef broth and Worcestershire sauce while stirring. Bring to a simmer and let it cook for 5 minutes, until slightly thickened.
Lower the heat and stir in the sour cream. Cook for an additional 2–3 minutes, until heated through but do not boil. Season with salt and black pepper to taste.
Serve the beef stroganoff over the cooked noodles and garnish with chopped parsley, if desired.
You can substitute ground beef with ground turkey or chicken for a lighter version.
Feel free to add more vegetables like peas or bell peppers for additional flavor and nutrition.
Store any leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. Reheat on the stove or in the microwave before serving.
