Ingredients

Main Ingredients

  • 24 Kings Hawaiian original sweet rolls 24-count party pack or two 12-count packages
  • 1.25 lb deli ham thinly sliced
  • 8 oz Swiss cheese thinly sliced
  • ½ cup butter
  • 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
  • 1 tablespoon brown sugar
  • ½ tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tablespoon poppy seeds
  • ½ tablespoon dried minced onion
  • ¼ teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon dried parsley optional

Instructions

  • Preheat your oven to 350 F. Grease your 9 by 13-inch baking dish ready for the rolls.
  • Slice the whole sheet of King's Hawaiian rolls in half horizontally. This gives you a top and bottom layer like a giant sandwich base.
  • Lay the bottom half flat inside your baking pan. Layer the thinly sliced deli ham evenly on top, followed by your Swiss cheese slices. Put the top half of rolls back on like a lid.
  • Melt butter in a small saucepan over medium heat. Stir in Dijon mustard, brown sugar, Worcestershire sauce, poppy seeds, dried minced onion, and garlic powder. Let it simmer 2 to 3 minutes till it all blends.
  • Pour this butter sauce evenly over your sandwich creation. Make sure every inch gets some love.
  • Cover the whole dish with foil. Let it hang out for about 10 minutes so flavors soak in before hitting the heat.
  • Bake covered for 20 minutes. Then, pull off that foil and bake another 5 to 10 minutes until the tops turn golden and cheese is melty.
  • Take it outta the oven and let it cool just a bit before slicing. You want it a little set to get clean slices but still warm and cheesy when you bite in.

Notes

To keep rolls from overbrowning, check doneness 5 minutes after foil is removed during baking. For gluten-free, use GF bread and tamari or coconut aminos in place of Worcestershire.
