12 small skewers or toothpicks
1 mixing bowl
1 saucepan for making the glaze
1 set measuring cups and spoons
- 12 pieces cherry tomatoes
- 12 leaves fresh basil
- 12 pieces mini mozzarella balls Bocconcini
- 1 cup balsamic vinegar
- 1 tablespoon honey Optional, for sweetness.
- to taste salt
- to taste pepper
- to taste extra virgin olive oil Optional, for drizzling.
Prepare the balsamic glaze by pouring the balsamic vinegar into a saucepan. Add honey if desired. Cook over medium heat, stirring frequently, until the vinegar reduces by half and becomes syrupy (about 5 minutes). Remove from heat and let it cool.
While the glaze is cooling, assemble the skewers. Take a skewer and thread a cherry tomato, followed by a basil leaf, and then a mini mozzarella ball. Repeat for all skewers.
Arrange the assembled skewers on a serving platter.
Drizzle the balsamic glaze over the skewers and season with salt and pepper to taste. If desired, drizzle a little extra virgin olive oil for added flavor.
Serve immediately or refrigerate for up to an hour before serving.
You can use larger skewers and adjust the ingredient quantities if you want bigger servings.
These skewers can be prepared a few hours ahead of time; just add the balsamic glaze before serving for the freshest flavor.
Feel free to mix in other ingredients, like sliced avocado or prosciutto, to customize the skewers to your taste.
