Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Line baking sheets with parchment paper.
In a mixing bowl, cream together the softened butter, brown sugar, and granulated sugar until light and fluffy.
Add the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Then stir in the vanilla extract.
In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, salt, cinnamon, nutmeg, and cloves.
Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, mixing just until combined.
Fold in the dried fruit, nuts, and optional chocolate chips until evenly distributed.
Using a cookie scoop or tablespoon, drop rounded dough onto the prepared baking sheets, spacing them about 2 inches apart.
Bake in the preheated oven for 10-12 minutes, or until the edges are lightly golden. The centers may look slightly underdone.
Remove from the oven and let the cookies cool on the baking sheets for a few minutes before transferring them to a cooling rack to cool completely.
