Ingredients
  

  • 12 oz pasta (e.g., penne or spaghetti)
  • 4 cups broccoli florets
  • 3 tablespoons olive oil
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • ¼ teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)
  • ½ teaspoon salt or to taste
  • ¼ teaspoon black pepper
  • ¼ cup grated Parmesan cheese plus more for serving
  • 1 lemon Juice of

Instructions
 

  • Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Add the pasta and cook according to package instructions until al dente, about 8-10 minutes.
  • In the last 3 minutes of pasta cooking time, add the broccoli florets to the pot.
  • Once the pasta and broccoli are cooked, drain them in a colander and set aside.
  • In the same pot or a large skillet, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the minced garlic and red pepper flakes (if using), and sauté for 1-2 minutes until fragrant, being careful not to burn the garlic.
  • Add the drained pasta and broccoli to the skillet. Season with salt and black pepper. Toss everything together to combine and heat through for about 2-3 minutes.
  • Remove from heat and stir in the grated Parmesan cheese and lemon juice. Toss gently until the cheese is melted and everything is well combined.
  • Serve the pasta warm, with additional Parmesan cheese sprinkled on top, if desired.

Notes

Feel free to customize this dish by adding other vegetables such as peas or spinach.
For a protein boost, you can add cooked chicken or chickpeas.
This dish can be served with a side salad or garlic bread for a complete meal.
