Equipment

  • 1 Cocktail shaker
  • 1 Jigger or measuring spoon
  • 1 Strainer
  • 2 Martini glasses
  • 1 Coffee maker for fresh espresso

Ingredients
  

  • 2 ounces fresh espresso About 1 single shot each.
  • 2 ounces vodka
  • 1 ounce coffee liqueur Such as Kahlua.
  • 1 ounce peppermint schnapps For a less intense flavor, reduce to 0.5 ounces.
  • Ice cubes
  • Fresh mint leaves for garnish
  • crushed candy canes Optional for rimming glasses.

Instructions
 

  • Brew 2 ounces of fresh espresso and allow it to cool slightly.
  • If desired, rim the martini glasses with crushed candy canes by wetting the rim with a little water and dipping it into the crushed candy canes.
  • Fill a cocktail shaker with ice cubes.
  • Add the cooled espresso, vodka, coffee liqueur, and peppermint schnapps into the shaker.
  • Secure the lid on the shaker and shake vigorously for about 15-20 seconds to chill the mixture thoroughly and combine the ingredients.
  • Strain the mixture evenly into the prepared martini glasses.
  • Garnish with a fresh mint leaf for added aroma and decoration.

Notes

For an even richer flavor, you can use a flavored vodka, such as vanilla or chocolate vodka.
If you prefer a less intense peppermint flavor, reduce the amount of peppermint schnapps to 0.5 ounces.
This cocktail is best served immediately while the espresso is still fresh.
