Equipment

  • 1 mixing bowl
  • 1 whisk
  • 1 shallow dish for soaking bread
  • 1 non-stick skillet or griddle
  • 1 spatula
  • 1 measuring cups and spoons

Ingredients

  • 8 slices thick-cut bread (such as brioche or challah)
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • ¼ cup brown sugar
  • ¼ cup maple syrup
  • ½ cup chopped pecans
  • to taste butter or oil (for cooking)

Instructions

  • In a mixing bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, vanilla extract, ground cinnamon, and brown sugar until well combined.
  • Pour the mixture into a shallow dish for easy soaking.
  • Preheat a non-stick skillet or griddle over medium heat and add a small amount of butter or oil to coat the surface.
  • Dip each slice of bread into the egg mixture, ensuring it is fully submerged and soaked but not overly soggy.
  • Place the soaked bread slices onto the skillet and cook for 3-4 minutes on each side, or until golden brown and cooked through.
  • While the French toast is cooking, prepare the praline topping. In a small saucepan, combine the maple syrup and chopped pecans. Heat over low heat until warmed and slightly thickened, about 5 minutes.
  • Once the French toast is cooked, stack the slices on serving plates, drizzle with the praline pecan syrup, and serve immediately.

Notes

For added flavor, you can mix in a pinch of nutmeg to the egg mixture.
If you don’t have a skillet, you can use a non-stick baking sheet and cook the French toast in the oven at 375°F (190°C) for about 10-15 minutes, flipping halfway through.
You can customize this recipe by adding fruits like bananas or berries as a garnish for extra sweetness and freshness. Enjoy!
