Equipment

  • 1 large skillet
  • 1 mixing bowl
  • 1 cooking spoon
  • 1 measuring spoons
  • 1 knife
  • 1 cutting board
  • 1 baking sheet optional, for warming tortillas
  • 1 tongs

Ingredients

  • 1 pound shrimp, peeled and deveined
  • 1 teaspoon olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon chili powder
  • ½ teaspoon cumin
  • ½ teaspoon garlic powder
  • salt and pepper to taste
  • 8 pieces corn tortillas
  • 1 each avocado, diced
  • 1 cup salsa store-bought or homemade
  • ¼ cup fresh cilantro, chopped
  • lime wedges for serving

Instructions

  • In a mixing bowl, combine the shrimp, olive oil, chili powder, cumin, garlic powder, salt, and pepper. Toss until the shrimp are well coated.
  • Heat the skillet over medium-high heat. Once hot, add the seasoned shrimp and cook for about 2-3 minutes on each side until they turn pink and are cooked through. Remove from heat.
  • If desired, warm the corn tortillas on a baking sheet in the oven for a few minutes or heat them on the skillet for about 30 seconds on each side.
  • Assemble the tostadas: place a warm tortilla on a plate, top with a portion of shrimp, diced avocado, and a generous spoonful of salsa.
  • Garnish with fresh cilantro and serve with lime wedges on the side.

Notes

Feel free to customize your tostadas by adding toppings such as shredded cheese, sour cream, or jalapeños.
For a spicier flavor, you can add diced jalapeños to the salsa or use a spicy salsa variety.
The shrimp can be substituted with chicken or a vegetarian protein for different variations.
