Equipment

  • 1 large mixing bowl
  • 1 sharp knife or pizza cutter
  • 1 baking sheet or frying pan
  • 1 parchment paper (optional)
  • 1 cooking oil (for frying or brushing)
  • 1 slotted spoon (if frying)
  • 1 oven (if baking)

Ingredients

  • 8 corn tortillas
  • ½ cup vegetable oil for frying or oil for brushing (for baking)
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • optional spices cumin, chili powder, or paprika for extra flavor

Instructions

  • Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) if you choose to bake the chips. If frying, heat the vegetable oil in a frying pan over medium heat.
  • Stack the corn tortillas and cut them into 6 equal triangles using a sharp knife or pizza cutter.
  • If baking, arrange the tortilla triangles in a single layer on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Brush both sides lightly with oil and sprinkle with salt and any additional spices you like.
  • For baking, place the baking sheet in the preheated oven and bake for 10-12 minutes, or until the chips are golden and crisp. Make sure to flip them halfway through cooking for even crispiness.
  • If frying, carefully place a few tortilla triangles in the hot oil, being cautious not to overcrowd the pan. Fry for about 2-3 minutes or until they turn golden brown. Use a slotted spoon to remove them from the oil and place on paper towels to drain excess oil. Sprinkle with salt immediately.
  • Repeat the frying process until all tortilla triangles are cooked.
  • Allow the chips to cool slightly before serving. Enjoy them with your favorite dips or toppings!

Notes

Store any leftover chips in an airtight container to maintain crispness.
Customize your tortilla chips by experimenting with different spices to suit your taste.
If you're looking for a healthier option, baking is recommended over frying.
