Equipment

  • 1 mixing bowl
  • 1 measuring cups and spoons
  • 1 rolling pin
  • 1 skillet or deep frying pan
  • 1 slotted spoon or tongs
  • 1 paper towels for draining

Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ¾ cup water Adjust as needed.
  • ¼ cup vegetable oil For frying.

Instructions

  • In a mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, baking powder, and salt. Mix thoroughly so that the dry ingredients are well distributed.
  • Gradually add water to the dry ingredients, stirring until the mixture comes together. If the dough feels too sticky, add a little more flour; if it feels too dry, add a bit more water.
  • Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 5-7 minutes, until it becomes smooth and elastic.
  • Divide the dough into 4 equal pieces and shape each piece into a ball. Cover with a damp cloth and let them rest for about 10 minutes.
  • Heat the vegetable oil in a skillet or deep frying pan over medium heat.
  • While the oil is heating, roll each ball into a flat disc about ¼ inch thick. Be careful not to make it too thin.
  • Once the oil is hot, gently place one piece of rolled dough into the oil. Fry for about 2-3 minutes on each side or until it becomes golden brown and crispy.
  • Remove the fry bread using a slotted spoon or tongs and place it on a paper towel to drain any excess oil. Repeat the process with the remaining pieces of dough.
  • Serve the fry bread warm, optionally with toppings such as honey, powdered sugar, or savory dishes.

Notes

Fry Bread can be served with various toppings, such as honey, powdered sugar, or savory dishes like curry.
